white spot on the map?

call for illustrator/graphic designer

waaw centre, saint-louis, senegal

april - may 2016

Saint-Louis has great potential when it comes to tourism - but the sector is lacking investment. Facilities for visitors are underdeveloped and information can be hard to find - not least in the form of maps.

Would you like to help Waaw to change things? We can offer one residency with free lodging, lasting for 3 to 6 weeks any time between 15 April and 31 May 2016, for a person who would draw one or several illustrated maps, for print and digital formats, to cater for the needs of visitors and residents.

You would be given credit for your work and the copyright would be shared between you and Waaw, but this is, in principle, not a commercial project and you would therefore work on a volunteer basis (just like us at Waaw).

For research and written content, you would work together with Waaw staff. Knowledge of French would be useful but not indispensable. Please bring necessary software and/or other equipment. You would share facilities with other international artists in residence at Waaw, and cover costs for travel and meals yourself.

While in Senegal, you shouldn't miss the Dak'Art Biennnale for contemporary art in Saint-Louis and Dakar (3 May-2 June) and the Saint-Louis Jazz festival (12-15 May).

Please send us an informal email at info[at} and tell us about your past work. We would like to hear from you as soon as possible or by 20 February at the latest.

Hope to see you at Waaw!
